I would like to stop for a day to travel around California. Any place near by the airport for me to see? How do I get there? How expensive is it? Please advice. Thank you.

I work at LAX and there are lots of things to do. There are tours you can take, shopping, Hollywood, Disneyland, Universal Studios. As for danger...I wouldn't be out walking around alone after dark. But there should be no problem during the day. When you arrive go to a Travelers Aid Booth. It is like any large city. It can be dangerous but if your careful and use reasonable judgement, you should be fine. LA is a huge place. You don't say what kind of sights you'd like to see but assuming you are from DC, I would think Hollywood and the beach would be attractions. You might tour Universal Studios. For the beach, I would head south to Orange County. If you like a more developed beach environment, Huntington and Newport Beaches are great. If you want a more scenic and less crowded area, try Laguna Beach or Capistrano Beach. Another nice thing about Laguna is the numerous the art galleries.
Take a tour from starlinetours.com or lacitytours.com. They will pick you up right at your hotel, or at the airport. You can get a nice quick taste of LA in a safe manner.
