Southwest no longer has nonstop service between Providence and LAX or BUR (see http://www.southwest.com/travel_center/routemap_dyn.html ). Looks like no other airlines do, either. I also checked surrounding airports LGB, ONT, and SNA from Providence, but there's no nonstop flights on those routes, either. Adding Hartford to the search... nothing nonstop from there, either. Of course there are nonstops to LAX from BOS--if that could work for you.
Fastest connection available from PVD currently is 7 hrs., 43 mins. (Continental) with several other airlines offering overall flight times of 8 hours or less on PVD-LAX.
Thanks! Your information helped me a lot. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080829200849AAIoxOM&kid=NbUvWzK4UzRcwDcvJh8g&s=comm&date=2008-09-08+16%3A50%3A01&.crumb=
No direct or non-stop service for Lax to PVD. USair has flights for $177.00 with a change in Phildelphia at 830 and 1100 AM on Sep4.
This is a one-way fare, and is very low.

Dan
