okay. I have done this many times. Catalina is great. the catalina cruiser, the boat, leaves from long beach. to contact them, call 877-432-6276. the marina del ray flyer leaves from marina del ray and you can call 310.305.7250 to contact them. Make sure you call to buy your tickets in advance!! Have a great trip!!! You can take a cab to Fiji Way in Marina Del Rey and catch a boat there...
well the closet ferry to lax is catalina ferrirs

You can take a taxi (mind you will cost you about 25 -30.00
to get to fisherman villiege
(you could take transit but you will would have walk up fiji way

then boad Line 232 to the Long beach transit terminal
then take either a A or D passport bus to the Catalina terminal
Go to Long Beach
the Catalina Ferry is off Ocean Blvd.
Ferry leaves several times a day
Catalina Express in Long Beach is the fastest way
Think about getting off and exploring Cat Harbor at the other end of the island
Well you cant jusat take a taxi
take a cab or Super Shuttle to San Pedro or Long Beach and then take the Catalina boat.
