Where is the closest greyhound/amtrak station from LAX? Is there a shuttle from LAX Airport to the station?

I am trying to get from LAX to San Deigo. any suggestions on the best routes would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. I am from NZ (currently in Canada) and have no idea where to start looking. Thanks :)

You will clear customs in Canada and NOT at LAX. So when you arrive you just get your bags. You can also fly directly into San Diego from Canada and not stop at LAX. If you do come into LAX you bags will be unloaded and you just pick them up. No customs. Any country other than Canada you will have to clear customs in Los Angeles. If you do want to fly into LAX...go outside with your bags and stand under the GREEN sign. There is a Flyaway bus that goes directly to Union Station. The cost is $4.00. You will only have to go through customs at LAX which is your first point of entry but you will need to re-check your bags to take the local flight to San Diego.

If you must travel to SD by train, then take the flyway bus from LAX to Union Station downtown $5 and take Amtrak to San Diego downtown $34 http://www.socalthemeparks.com/la-county-area-transit.html

Another way to go is take the Metrolink from Union Station to Oceanside and the Coaster train to downtown San Diego.

Taking a Cab or shuttle will simply be too expensive.

First of all avoid Greyhound, their service along that entire corridor is subcontracted to a Mexican company called Crucero with poor service. Consider just taking a Flyaway bus from LAX to Union Station in Downtown LA ($4) then either a direct Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train to San Diego for about $27 or a Metrolink commuter train to Oceanside for $12 then a Coaster commuter train into San diego from there for $5. Good Luck!

you mighjt want to seee if you couldnt get a flight direct from

Candana to San Diego

since you pre clear US customs in Canada

so you can total skip Lax (so you wont have to clear customs in LA or San Diego)

unless you want to stop over in LA for some reason

then I suggset Amtrak

dont use Greyhound (as their services has gone to the pits)

You can take Amtrak or Greyhound from San Diego to Los Angeles. Both of them will drop you off at Union Station, which is the main station in downtown LA. There is a shuttle called Flyaway that will take you from Union Station to LAX. It runs every 1/2 hour and costs $4 per person. It also offers baggage check-in. See http://www.lawa.org/flyAway/ for details.

Flying would be good. You only have to clear customs once. Once you take a domestic flight, you only have to check your bags, not "clear" them.

DON'T take Greyhound.

There is a "flyaway" shuttle to Union Station, where you can catch the Amtrak to SD. Just go outside the terminal on the arrival level, and look for the green signs. It's only $5.

Good luck!

Why dont you just fly into San Diego? There is a super shuttle. I dont know if it goes from LAX to San Diego.
